Above you can see a few of the strange places in Hyde Park that monk parakeets choose to build nests on. The metal lattices created by our electrical poles and satellite dishes are very convenient locations for the birds...the electrical lines may even provide heat in the winter. Of course, their tendency to nest on utility poles has caused many problems for them and us.
Squirrels are often running around monk parakeet nests. Sometimes they may even share nests (although living in different chambers). The parakeets don't seem to have any reaction to the squirrels.
